The annual STRF concerts started off
just after TnT carnival 2000 as the “Rock Season Kick
Off”. The show was the brainchild of rock deejay
Psychorish who was eager to have his ideas for a concert
materialize. The concept was a simple one, and with the
assistance his friend Anand the proprietor of the Samaan
Tree Bar, it happened. The bar is located opposite the
Aranguez Park and has proven to be an excellence
ambience for an open air concert. The idea was to have a
free admission show there with a few bands with the bar
being in the direct vicinity of it. Keeping the
Woodstock feel to it, it was proven a huge success. The
bar sold out! The bands were compensated with a meal and
a case of beers making it a low budgeted successful
lime. Each year sponsors has reacted positively towards
the event, even though The Samaan Tree Bar foots the
main cost.
A number of bands and musicians (like Necropollis) made
their debut to the circuit at STRF.
In 2000 featured bands like Tremor, Iron Eye, EPITAPH,
Jepsting, Plague, Kager Karma, New Dawn, Burn, Over Dose
Each year they are bombarded with calls from bands who
are eager to play
This year marks the 6th successive year of the Samaan
Tree Rock Festivals. Each year the crowds has grown
bigger and bigger even though there were a lot of
negative critics from ignorant people who were worse off
than ever. But the positive comments and constructive
advice also contributed to make the promoters stronger,
wiser and better. The genuine efforts and true love for
rock music by the promoters has gained the respect and
support of the fans throughout the country and even
regionally from people in Barbados, St. Lucia and
Guyana. Rish and Anand often jokes about having a
“foreign” band play there one day. Who knows one day it
may materialize.
